The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a new silicone gel-filled breast implant option, MemoryGel® Xtra, according to Mentor Worldwide LLC, the producer of the implants.

The newly approved implants — which will soon be available to consumers across the United States – will offer women who are undergoing breast reconstruction, augmentation or revision surgery extra fullness and projection.

"I look forward to being able to provide women with this new style of implant to consider, as they evaluate the options associated with breast implant surgery," said Dr. Louis Strock, M.D., American Board of Plastic Surgery, Diplomate said in a release.

"MENTOR® MemoryGel® implants, with their soft, natural feel, have been a great fit for many of my patients throughout the years. Each enhancement to the MemoryGel product line has been thoughtfully designed with patients in mind."

Mentor Worldwide LLC, which is a part of Johnson & Johnson Medical Device Companies, also announced that it will be launching a new product in its ARTOURA Breast Tissue Expander line that has a smooth shell and will give patients and reconstructive surgeons more options and provide, “a more seamless transition to final implant selection,” according to the release.
