What do you wish your doctor knew? CURE has partnered with Inspire in their #IWishMyDoctorKnew campaign. The campaign asked patients and caregivers to finish the sentence, “I wish my doctor knew…” in hopes of creating a more understanding relationship. Please share your story in the discussion group.
You feel a lump.
A bump.
A something-isn't-right.
You walk into the doctor's office.
Your heart is racing.
You can't breathe.
You see your future disappearing before your eyes.

Know my fear.
so scared
Take my life in your hands.
all control is you
I am more than my diagnosis.
know my heart
You hold all the power.
your words swim around my head
I wish I was your one and only.
please treat me like your one and only
You don’t want to give false hope.
it’s the only thing keeping me from drowning
You hold my hand
Check.

Please guide me
Not just my body
But me
Not just my body to healing or healed or at-least-not-dead-yet
But me, my whole me, my whole self
Please know how much it hurts
Not the body, but the knowing
Please pretend that you care.
I wish my doctor knew.

I wish my doctor knew that I know when he & his staff are not being honest with me. I think he already knows that though. I wish my doctor knew how damaging it is to our doctor-patient relationship when he isn't being transparent. I wish my doctor knew how awful it feels when you don't fully trust the people you're depending on to keep you alive. I hope he never has to know how that feels.

I wish my doctor knew ME. Mary. The person who smiles and smiles and tries to do it with a good attitude, but really feels as if she is a blob among many blobs. The way the blood pressure monitor sounds, the name and date of birth over and over (and I know that is good safety), the sound of the elevator doors, the waiting for results. How I think about the words that come out of my doctor's mouth and dissect them. How I wish my doctor knew me. And really my doctor is good. I AM grateful, but since you asked, that's what I wish. I wish my doctor knew how scared I was to tell him I wasn't happy with something because he might not put quite as much effort into working on my case. I've never felt as scared because of a difference in power since I faced a soldier with a loaded gun in another country. I wish he would encourage reasonable complaints so I could believe that my honesty wouldn't hurt me. - Frank
