It is surprising that melanoma rates continue to rise, given all the information, free screenings available, etc. I wonder if the rise in melanoma seen in the South or other areas popular with retirees can be attributed in part to patients who acquired the disease in other states and moved to warmer climates later. I have had non-melanoma skin cancer most likely due to my time outdoors in the NE. Diagnosed in my late 40s with skin and thyroid cancer and moved to FL soon after, I remain vigilant and always apply sunblock! I hope there is a follow up to this article as more information becomes available.
