The Original Healing Threads
Spirited Sisters

After sisters Peg and Claire were diagnosed with advanced cancers, they teamed up with their other sister Patty to design hospital gowns they could use—gowns that were stylish, comfortable, and also accessible for many of the medical procedures they were undergoing for treatment.

A couple of years later, The Original Healing Threads took off, being featured in Oprah and People magazines, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and local news stations in Boston.

The gowns preserve the wearer’s modesty and can be worn before, during, and after medical procedures, which is advantageous to older patients who may have trouble getting in and out of clothing quickly. Other features include back openings, panels that expose the chest for port-a-caths and breast exams, and sleeves that easily roll up and stay up. Pockets inside the gown hide drainage bags or pumps, while large outside pockets are easily accessible.

The Original Healing Threads also produces pants that can open to above the knee and include comfortable drawstring waists. The clothing contains no metal, which would be a hindrance to many diagnostic and screening exams. The fabric is wrinkle- and stain-resistant, machine washable, and is made from micro-fiber that is non-irritating to sensitive skin.

The clothing can be a bit expensive, ranging from about $40 to $50 for pants and $80 to $90 for tops. However, when the products are used for medical purposes, such as for cancer treatment, they might be tax deductible as a medical expense and eligible for health care flexible spending account reimbursements.
