EXTRAORDINARY HEALER AWARD WINNER ANNOUNCED!
Congratulations to Dorothy Wahrman, RN, OCN, of Nebraska Cancer Specialists in Omaha, Nebraska, who was awarded CURE's 2010 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing at a ceremony in San Diego on May 13 before more than 600 of her nurse peers.
As the winner, Wahrman received a three-night spa trip for two at Lakeway Resort and Spa outside of Austin, Texas. Also present was Valerie Bosselman who nominated Wahrman for the award after Wahrman cared for her daughter, Megan, who lost her battle with adrenal cortical carcinoma in 2008. For the fourth year, CURE presented readers with a unique opportunity to honor an oncology nurse who helped them heal. This year’s Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing resulted in an outpouring of nominations from patients, survivors, caregivers and peers, describing the compassion, expertise, and helpfulness received from a special nurse on their oncology team.
The event was held during the Oncology Nursing Society’s 35th Annual Congress in San Diego on May 13, with Honorary Mistress of Ceremonies Ann Jillian, Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress, singer and cancer survivor. Thank you again to everyone who participated in CURE’s 2010 Extraordinary Healer Award competition!
