Getting Involved: Beyond the Pink Ribbon

It took me two years post diagnosis to become involved in breast cancer advocacy. There are so many opportunities out there: lobbying with NBCC, learning the science through advocacy groups, reviewing grants for Komen, NIH, and Avon, attending conferences and workshops, mentoring others through your doctor, or serving on a hospital IRB or a hospital quality care committee. Here in St. Louis the Komen Affiliate sponsors a free 2-day workshop (this year Oct 23 and 24) where many of these opportunities are presented. Learning is empowering.

RE: Getting Involved: Beyond the Pink Ribbon

GETTING INVOLVED IS SO IMPORTANT TO FIGHTING & COMBATTING THIS DISEASE. I HAVE STARTED COLLECTING THE LIDS OFF CANS; DID NOT REALIZE THE GREAT BENEFIT. THEY ARE RECYCLED FOR RESEARCH FOR RONALD MCDONALD'S HOUSE AND BREAST CANCER. EVERYONE SHOULD BE ACTIVE EVEN BEFORE BEING DIAGNOSED WITH SOME FORM OF CANCER. PREVENTION ALWAYS
