RE: Femara for Breast Cancer
The only side effect that I have noticed is joint pain/stiffness. Not severe just enough that you know it is there. I have been on femara for 5 years and have not had any other problems with it.

RE: Femara for Breast Cancer
I have been on Femara for 8 months. It has caused severe joint pain for me. My knees are particularly affected. I have metastatic brest cancer with mets to the liver. For me, Femara is a choice that may prolong my life. Right now, my tumors are stable after chemo, so I want to keep things that way!

On femara for 3 years on Nov.1. Some joint pain, hair loss(lots) and worst of all constant hot flashes. I took Gabapentin for some time for pain. Stopped it 8 months ago. Its not easy but I am no longer taking any additional meds. I am a five year survivor and because I am still cancer free I deal with it.
If you develop any issues, share them with your oncologist. Everyone reacts differently. I had no problem on tamaxofin and some people do.
Think positive, try to stay active, and don't try to ignore any problems. Hideing things zaps your energy.
Good luck,

Thanks everybody for your insight into how Femara is affecting us all. It helps to know how others respond to it, and it gives me the courage to try and take it for the next five years. I am have stomach upset, hot flashes, and is it possible mood changes?
Good health to us all...

RE: Femara for Breast Cancer
I just finished Femara 5 days ago after a long 5 years. I have had every side effect that was possible. For me every one was worth it. Each day I took a pill I believed one more cancer cell dying or not being born and one more day of life. I equated my pains as my body fighting and killing a cancer cell, this seemed to make it easier and worth it. Since I am so drug sensitive I opted not to take drugs to fight the side effects. I am now 5 years 13 days cancer free and am looking forward to the next 5 years as my side effects slowly disappear. Stay strong and be well each little pills is worth it.

Thank you, Oceanview, for your inspiring remarks! I will try to think of my pain as my body fighting cancer. I just had a CT scan, and the tumors in my liver continue to shrink. The doctor says it's the Femara at work, so I will gladly continue to take my little, yellow pill!
