triple negative breast cancer

i was so happy to see an article on this type of bc.... i am 5years since diagnosis, two lumpectomies, chemo, and then tested for brca2 gene.i decided to take off both breasts... only to find, cancer was through three layers of chest skin according to the biopsy... what a lifesaver it was doing the double.those tiny microscopic cells dont show on cat scans.. so, i read that the triple negative is only 10-20 percent of the population.. anyone out there like me? i just had a lobe removed from right lung due to a nodule.. waiting for results...

RE: triple negative breast cancer

Hello Lovespink 29,

I am not in the same situation but very similar. I did not have my breasts removed but did have a lumpectamy in my left breast, chemo and radiation back in 2003. 2 yrs. ago the cancer came back in my left lung so Hopkins removed part of that lung and the nodule was cancer. Within that year another nodule showed up in my chest and then a few on my lungs. Since then I have taken some chemos that did not work and then they put me on Taxol and Avastin and it seems to have done the trick. SO far the nodules have collapsed...thank God for that!! And I am also triple negative. It sounds like you are doing pretty good. If there is anything I can share w/you please let me know. I wish you all the best and I will continue to pray they find more and more help for us who are triple negative!

Take care,
Hope4Cure

RE: triple negative breast cancer

Hi Lovespink, I, too, have triple negative breast cancer. I was diagnosed in September of 2006. I am now a 3 year, 2 week survivor. I had a lumpectomy, with a sentinel node biopsy. No lymph nodes were involved, but I had four months of chemo and 35 days radiation therapy.

I am scared to death of a recurrence, with all that I have read about triple negative cancer. My mammograms and other tests have detected nothing so far, but my tumor was a State IIa, Grade 3, and it is the Grade 3 that has me fearing the worst. Of course, there are no current drugs to take following the initial treatment as there are for other breast cancers, and I am just simply wondering what the mammograms are missing. I had several microcalcifications in the diagnostic mammogram and the following ultra-sound. My G.P. seems to think that I am home free, but I run to him with every ache and pain I have. Do you have any suggestions on how to get over the oversized fear of recurrence of having a triple negative tumor? If so, please let me know. Thank you, maggiejc
