Cancer-Related Fatigue

[size=8]I'm a 59-year-old female.I completed treatment (surgery, chemo, radiation) for Stage III-A NSCLC over 5 years ago. I also have (diagnosed 6 years ago, no treatment to date) Stage 0 CLL. The fatigue which started with my radiation therapy has never abated. I wake up un-refreshed (after 7-8 hours of sleep), need both a morning & afternoon nap, & generally can't make it past 10pm. Going out in the evening (to a movie, to visit with friends, to a late dinner, etc) is impossible. The most strenuous thing I do is walk my dog - slowly, about 2 blocks. Exercise was suggested, & I spent 6 months swimming daily (about 15-20 mins was all I could manage before either weakness or breatheing difficulty made me stop). The result? NOTHING - no change at all. So I stopped (frankly, I didn't enjoy it at all & couldn't see continuing something which wasn't helping). Has anyone else had similar experiences?

RE: Cancer-Related Fatigue

Oh, I hear you! I am 3 years out and I fight this battle myself. Chemo really wreaks havoc on the body, for all the good it may do. It takes a while to do damage control.

Lower oxygen does have a lot to do with fatigue. You may want to consider another form of exercise if swimming doesn't appeal to you any more.

Are you getting a solid night's sleep? Enough hours of sleep?

Are you eating foods that provide energy?

All the Best,

RE: Cancer-Related Fatigue

Soft tissue Sarcoma on my chest wall required Radical Chemo & surgery removing my sternum, then radiation in 2003. Lung MET in 2005 and NEDS since. It's a miracle! I so want to enjoy my life...but, weakness, fatigue, pain. The article "Late Effects of Radiation" proved to me my symptoms are REAL and its not because I'm not trying hard enough. Every symptom described I have. I've been on line trying, in vain, to find more research or treatment or testing for "Radiation Fibrosis Syndrome"
Has anyone found more info? Is there more I don't know?

RE: Cancer-Related Fatigue

Well, medical docs will tell you radiation fibrosis is non-reversible,and to some extent that is true, but there are homeopathic remedies such as acupuncture and herbal remedies that you may want to try. Have you tried an herbal lung support?

Also, you may still have radiation in your body, so detoxing will help. Chlorella is a great detox for radiation. You can take capsules or mix into a daily smoothie.
Hope this helps.
