Bi-lateral stage 1 & stage 2,ER/PR pos

Diagnosed 1 yr agao with bi-lateral breast cancer, had bi-lateral mastectomy and chemotherapy. Doctor wants me on Femara for minimum 5yrs. possibly up to 10 yrs. since I am still pretty young. Tried Femara and didn't react to it so well, only lasted a couple of months and decided not to continue. Worry about met. is there anybody that can reply with a similiar experience? So hard to decide what to do, do I try again and feel crappy all the time or just take the chance. Doctors say they really can't give me percent of risk. Please reply

Bobbimac, what is your HER2 ? Positive or negative ? If you are ER/PR pos and Her2 negative, then you can qualify for the Oncotype DX test. They use a tissue sample taken when you had your surgery, nothing for you to do. The test tells what the percentage of your cancer returning (recurrence score). My Oncologist ordered the test. The test is very expensive, hopefully you have insurance that will pay for it. You can find more out about it at www.oncotypeDX.com. I had my surgery 7/09, left side modified radical mastectomy. I have joined a couple Cancer support groups which have really helped me coupe. Also, I was first put on Arimidex then switched to Femara. For me the Femara works well, but you might want to try the Arimidex. Good luck to you.
