In the Summer issue of CURE, the Side Note department focuses on deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This is a condition that occurs when a blood clot develops in a vein of the leg or pelvic region. Research has shown that at least half of all cancer patients suffer from DVT at some point. This side effect, which can be life-threatening, is often under diagnosed and undertreated. The best thing patients can do is being aware of the symptoms of DVT and informing their doctor when these symptoms arise. This Wednesday (June 16), the Coalition to Prevent DVT is hosting a webinar about this common cancer side effect. The webinar, "DVT: How Health Complications Can Increase Your Risk," will be Wednesday, June 16, at 12:30 p.m. ET, and led by Nancy Skinner, RN, CCM, of Riverside HealthCare Consulting. During the hour-long event, Skinner will cover what health complications increase your risk of DVT, how an individual can reduce that risk, and how to management techniques if DVT is already present. If interested, you can register for the webinar here. And make sure to check out the Summer issue of CURE for more about the causes, prevention, and management of DVT.
