In this CURE Connections program, moderator, Dr Philippa Cheetham, is joined by, Freda Omaswa. Freda shares her unique story as a “healthcare professional turned patient.” Also joining the discussion are, Dr John Marshall, of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Dr G. Emmett Lynskey, of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Together, the panelists discuss how they have worked together as a team to manage Freda’s condition and share considerations for patients and loved ones facing a similar diagnosis.

Freda Omaswa discusses which symptoms led her to testing and a diagnosis of metastatic colon cancer, and explains what it was like shifting from the role of a doctor to a patient. Dr. John Marshall discusses what it is like working with a patient like Freda who has a background in medicine.
After a 19-month battle with metastatic colon carcinoma, Freda passed away quietly in her sleep on February 1, 2016.
