Interesting article. I guess any type of shock could probably cause PTSD. I have suffered from it for years and it seems to sneak up on me when I am already stressed out. I have heard that the rapid eye movement therapy works really well. Finding someone to help you with it can be hard.
I truly believe cancer can cause PTSD, because I feel that's something I maybe going through almost daily, and if it's not PTSD, then what is it?
When you live your life with what's if almost every time you feel a pain, or feel a little weak, or feel that something not going right with you on a certain day, of course the first thing comes to your mind, "is the cancer back, esp when you've gone through it multiple times. You're afraid to go for checkups, blood work, because it may show something is not right and of course your mind goes straight to "the cancer is back. It's in your face daily, first off by viewing the scars from your previous cancer, then you either hear, see or possibly read about it almost everyday. A person who hasn't endued such, will bypass those stories whether it's on television, in a book or hear that someone's diagnosed with it. There will be some that will feel a lil something, some that will feel a lot of something and sad, if they know the person who have just been diagnosed, but there will still be the ones where it won't even bother them, because they haven't been there. They don't know how to feel about it. As cancer survivors, it may frighten some of us a little, it will frighten some of us a lot; esp when you hear that someone didn't survive it as you was able to, and of course you think to yourself, "I may not the next time. See, you're already thinking there may be a next time.
Yes, you try to go on with your life as normal as possible, trying to keep busy and be as happy as possible, but not too many days go by, where you don't think of that cancer. It played a Hugh role in your life, so you really have no choice. It's park in a corner of your mind and it stays there. If that's not PTSD, I would surely like to know what is it? But even after all that, I pride myself on being happy, enjoying my life, because I have something to live for, my grand kids! I feel they're my reason for surviving it all.
