I respectfully disagree with 80% of this article. I have an extremely rare form of NHL, Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia. There are 1,500 new cases/yr. in the U.S. After getting it and going through 12 rounds of chemo, research I've done has shown that due to my 100+ oz. of diet soda a day for over 4-5yrs, I most likely caused this cancer. My question to the author is why would anyone want to put ANY aspartame in their body? Seems like many studies that look for 'cause' are usually funded by the companies that have the most to lose in lost revenue if their product is shown to cause or be a causative factor in getting any kind of cancer. They can't afford to take it off the market. There's so much different with our food industry over the last 25yrs that is causing many health issues, with aspartame just being one. Auto-immune disease is the problem and it's been proven that poor nutrition, eating foods with preservatives, not eating enough organic food (which isn't affordable in most instances) and lack of exercise is to blame. I didn't take to heart all of the information available out there and I will always have this cancer, as it's incurable. I would hope CURE magazine is truly about 'cures' and not just treatments. Many research organizations and particularly Big-Pharma are interested only in treating the symptoms and keeping a patient on inexcusably expensive drug regimens that prolong life, but not necessarily quality of life. My question is not about treatment, but about true cures. Why don't we read about actual cure research and not just treatment research? Food additives, crop spraying, GMO seed corn, giving 'prophylactic antibiotics' to beef, pigs, chickens, farm raised fish, etc. are all ingested by the public without thinking/caring about it. There's so much wrong with living in today's world of agriculture technology and research, we are starting to kill ourselves. I agree that all types of soda are very unhealthy. In addition to possible causes, it is also bad for bones, brain and gut. Especially can be harmful after conventional treatments where bones, brain, other organs are damaged by chemo and/or radiation. Eating a mostly ORGANIC diet makes sense in this era of faux food. I support your post. I am the founder/president of cancer nonprofit Annie Appleseed Project, focus on natural strategies, lifestyle changes and holistic treatments (as much from an evidence-base as possible).
