My story is almost identical. I was suppose to be dead circa 2015 as I did not respond to standard cancer treatment. By chance, I was referred to a terrific oncologist after my endocrinologist said that there was nothing else he could do for me. I asked my new oncologist if I could have a genome evaluation using a two-year old lung biopsy. Turns out I had the right genetic profile for the Immunotherapy drug Opdivo. Together, my oncologist and I fought to get money for the drug ($22,000 per month) as the drug was not approved by the FDA for my particular type of cancer. Today, I am cancer free and advocate for the FDA to approve cancer drugs based on genetic profiling instead of cancer type.
