When I first heard about these law suits, my initial reaction was revulsion at the idea of putting talcum powder, or any powder, on the vaginal or peritoneal areas of my body. Why would anyone do that? I still wonder what the connection is between Johnson and Johnson and this particular use of talcum powder! The more educated part of me does wonder about the thinking of jury members when the scientific evidence is so very mixed. The size of this particular award does make it seem punitive against the company. One of the unfortunate aspects of our legal system is that corporations can use their resources to appeal and drag avoid paying plaintiffs when the plaintiff has a clearly valid case. This is a complex case, but as a stage IV cancer patient myself, I know that I don't want to spend my remaining life with the stress of a law suit.
