Is it safe to do cupping on Lymphedema affected parts? How many sessions did you do and does it swell back after a day or two from the session ? How do you know where to exactly place the cups . Can you provide before and after photos. Regards

Hi. Your article was of great interest to me. I am fortunate to see a registered massage therapist who has special training in lymphedema. She uses cups, along with drainage, as needed. I'm fortunate to have mild lymphedema. I believe mine was caused by radiation. I'm sorry that you have not had a similar experience. Knowledge and treatment for lymphedema is not well known. Can my experience, or my therapist, help you?

I attached a picture of the type of cups that you are talking about on my friend's back. The proper cups actually are glass and a rubbing alcohol covered cotton ball is lit to create a suction under the cup. My friend is a massage therapist and we studied anatomy together when she was originally learning cupping years ago. She taught me the methods because she wanted to be cupped too and rather not spend the money. The glass cups are much more expensive and take a skill to do. Took me a little practice but some people I've seen try it and badly fail. Unfortunately working with fire can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing or trying to do on yourself so the plastic cups are clearly better for at home treatments, but the glass cups in my opinion work much better. Also, you can leave them in place about 20mins.... good luck to you... it's decompression massage and it detoxifies the body. It is recommended not to shower for at least 12 hours after cupping and to drink lots of water to help the detoxification process. I still wonder why Michael Phelps did it in between swimming because you are not suppose to shower after but I only know minimal information on cupping, I'm no expert. Anyhow, hope this helps. I also suggest you start taking turmeric supplements and adding it to a lot of your meals. It should help. If you can stomach chipotle powder do the same with that. I like to capsule it myself. It is good for that too. I don't have your issue, but I have plenty of my own.... good luck again! Always go with your gut feeling when it comes to your health.
