About six years ago, my boy cat was able to detect my neuroendocrine cancer in my lung. He was obsessed with smelling my breath and this continued for months until I had surgery to remove that lobe of my lung. Immediately upon returning home from the hospital, the odd behavior stopped. Then about a year ago, he started the same thing all over again; anytime we were close, he wanted to smell my breath. I am still being scanned and lab-tested, so far with negative results, but I am beginning to have symptoms of erratic heartbeats and flushing. Unfortunately, our Tom boy died a couple months ago, so I can't depend on him any longer, but I will keep up with the screening for recurrence. Come to think about it, he was also obsessed with over-grooming the last two years but we blamed it on an allergy to flea bites. Hmmmm, makes me wonder.
My cat stopped eating right before I was diagnosed with breast cancer. All tests for her were negative. She began eating again after my care giver helped me nurse her back. She now eats well and on her own. If they love you they sense everything!
My cat that never sits with you started sitting on my lap. Every time I sat he would hop up and position himself on my abdomen. Curl up & sit as if he was hatching an egg. Turned out I had Uterine Leiomyosarcoma. He was laying on the spot. Yes I'm a believer!
My mother owned a pretty unsocial feral cat. The cat spent most of its time running from hiding spot to hiding spot. When my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the cat would always sit where her tumor was. After my mom passed, we inherited her cat. Fast forward 5 years...every time I sit on the couch the cat is there putting her paws on the same spot on my left breast. Freaks me out a little, I am 3 months away for my annual mammogram. I go get one anyway. Where was my tumor? In that exact spot. I had a lumpectomy and radiation and the cat never did it again. My husband refers to what happened as my "cat" scan.
I believe! My cat over groomed and head butted my breast before I was diagnosed and had a lumpectomy.
I thought she was allergic to the food or the litter. As soon as the lumpectomy was done she stopped over grooming.
I have stage 4 and she still head butts me but very little excessive grooming.
