Thank you, Jane, for this straightforward discussion of fatigue. I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer in 2012, endured a double mastectomy, infections, extra reconstruction surgeries (wish I'd never chosen reconstruction, but that's a different topic), chemo, Herceptin, Perjeta and now the dang AI. Everyone seems to think that because I'm "this far out" that I shouldn't be fatigued. BS. I am, and when it gets bad, I allow myself some "jammie days." Sorry. Cancer is not as simple as taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection. The treatments have severe side effects for some of us. Yes, some may return to their previously active lives. Others of us struggle with the new normal, and learn to priotize much better than we ever did before.

Dear Jane: I have read several of your articles and find them to be enlightening and encouraging. I was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in 2013 and have been in a watch and wait mode ever since. About 3 months ago my doctor decided that now was the time. I was infused with the stem cells of a 22 year old male 52 days ago on September 19, 2017. Due to my age, I'm 68 years old, I received a reduced intensity chemo program. I still suffered through a number of the side effects I was told to expect, albeit, not to the extent I was told to expect. I received a lot of encouragement before and during my transplant and I feel the most important piece of advise I received was to keep a positive attitude. I adopted the mindset that I was going to make through this and still lead a fairly normal life. At 52 days out my doctor and I are both very happy with my blood work numbers. I wish to thank you for your articles and encouragement.
