View Original Post As someone who cared for a mother with Stage 4 breast cancer who also had dementia, I appreciated when I could get any respite help so I could get out of the house to shop or even just to take a nap and not have to worry about her trying to do something she wasn\'t supposed to. I had help from hospice services 3 days/week, but the other days were mine alone and it was overwhelming at times. I took care of her for 6 months in my home when a bed became available for her in a nearby nursing home where I could visit her as often as I wanted. She passed away there June of 2015.\r\n

I really resent this article and the many others like it. I am not a cancer patient, but I did take care of my mother who had stage 4 breast cancer and is no longer with me. I had to advocate for her to obtain pain relief because she also had dementia and had difficulty verbalizing when and where she had pain, especially as her dementia progressed. She never received more than 50mg Tramadol, which is barely a drop in the bucket when it comes to serious pain relief. I suffer from chronic pain - mostly due to Fibromyalgia and Lumbar spinal stenosis. I have difficulty walking any significant distance or standing for extended periods of time.
