Equal opportunity coverage for oral cancer by Cure

Dear Cure: In light of Barbara Chernow's recent post on oral cancer, I respectfully request that you establish ORAL CANCER as a discussion heading. Currently, this appears to be grouped all under head and neck cancer, which calls insufficient attention to the oral cavity proper. I find it particularly ironic that you have a discussion heading "Anal cancer" with no posts, yet there is indeed a post (and only one, from what I can see, ie, Barbara's) about oral cancer...and this WITHOUT a corresponding discussion heading. Oral cancer is just as prevalent and essentially no more survivable than it was four decades ago, and poses a serious public health risk that is grossly under-publicized in the media (with the possible exception of HPV-related cancer, which ...

Oral Cancer: One Family's Journey

My deepest condolences on the loss of your mom, Barbara, and thanks for having the courage to tell your/her story. Also, thank you for putting up what appears to be Cure's first oral cancer post--I was disappointed to find that OC is not a main discussion heading for the magazine (...and yet anal cancer is; how ironic!). I'd welcome a further discussion with you about changes I envision in how clinicians and patients alike face OC as we move forward (see below). Dentists such as myself (non-practicing writer/researcher/blogger) need to do a much better job at re-defining early detection, mostly via salivary DNA testing now available, to identify OC risk at its very earliest stages.
