Beth DuPree on What Patients With Breast Cancer Need to Know at Diagnosis

Beth DuPree, MD, FACS, ABIHM

Beth DuPree, MD, FACS, ABIHM, medical director of Integrative Medicine and Wellness and vice president of Holy Redeemer Health System, adjunct assistant professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, discusses what patients need to know the day they are diagnosed with breast cancer.

First, it is important that patients take a deep breath and realize that breast cancer is not a surgical emergency. In fact, surgery is just one aspect of treatment that may not be required for every patient. DuPree recommends that patients get a second surgical opinion and weigh their options and preferences before deciding on a treatment plan.
