Lynne Joy Malestic Discusses Her Transition to Oncology Nursing

Lynne Malestic, RN

Lynne Joy Malestic, RN, Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center, Rancho Mirage, California, 2016 Extraordinary Healer Award Winner, discusses how she entered oncology nursing after 15 years in obstetrics.

Malestic was first exposed to the world of oncology when she started accompanying her best friend, who had been diagnosed with colon cancer, to her treatments and doctors’ appointments. Malestic became intrigued with cancer care, and decided to check out the oncology department at Eisenhower Lucy Curci. She was hired that day.

Her former colleagues from the OB department did not think Malestic would last very long in such a “depressing" environment. However, Malestic fell in love with her job and sees comforting patients and their families as very rewarding.
