What to Know When Choosing Between Treatments for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms

Catriona Jamieson, M.D., Ph.D.

Catriona Jamieson, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Medicine, University of California, San Diego Health Moores Cancer Center, discusses what people diagnosed with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) need to consider when choosing among providers and treatment options.

People diagnosed with MPNs should know the stage of their disease, and ensure that appropriate testing has been done to confirm they actually have the disease. They also need to understand what the standard of care is, and talk with their physicians about what experimental treatments might be available. They also need to know about the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's Guidelines for MPNs, which explains in common terms what the best practices are for MPN treatment.
