Susan McClure's Biography

What I do at CURE: Vice-President, Publisher of CURE Media Group. I am a 12 year survivor of triple negative breast cancer and a 25 year veteran of the publishing industry. And let me tell you, the term "veteran" has never felt more appropriate!

What I like about CURE: For our staff, working for CURE is more of a calling than a job. We care deeply about what we do and feel fortunate to be able to earn a living while helping people to become more informed about cancer.

What I do when I’m not working at CURE: I spend quality time with my family and my dogs Tink and Snickers.

My journey before CURE included: Lots of jobs in magazine publishing and a bout of breast cancer.

Interesting fact about myself: I can’t add, which is one reason I chose journalism as a profession.

Something I dislike: Intolerance

My Favorite book: The Life of Pi

My favorite quote: “The best things in life aren't things."

Something I’m proud of: My parents have been married for over 50 years!

Profile A veteran of the magazine industry, Susan McClure is also a breast cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 1997 at the age of 35. She underwent a lumpectomy and radiation followed by four months of chemotherapy. She is a founding board member of Planet Cancer, a non-profit for young adults with cancer in their 20s and 30s. She joined CURE magazine in 2003, wanting to commit her abilities to a publication that would make the cancer journey easier for others. She currently serves as Vice-President and Publisher of CURE Media Group, the nation’s largest magazine for those affected by cancer. While at CURE, McClure has worked to expand the company’s offerings to include award-winning books, magazines, live patient and survivor forums, and has created ground-breaking collaborations with numerous non-profit organizations. She was also instrumental in the creation of the first oncology nursing recognition program that involved patient nominations, the Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing, which is presented each year at the Oncology Nursing Society’s Annual Congress. In addition to her publishing duties, McClure writes for CURE and has represented CURE Media Group at various industry events.
