Making a Difference

March 06, 2017

So, where can I even begin!? The past six days have been beyond amazing – beyond my wildest dreams. From the chaos of Kathmandu to Namche Bazaar, the views are indescribable. My team is really family, and the Sherpa people are beautiful. All of that capped off today with a short hike to the top of Namche where I got my first view of Mount Everest at sunrise. To say that it was a spiritual experience for me is an understatement.

When this journey began over a year ago at the suggestion of my doctor, Dr. Saad Usmani, God told me this was a gift. A gift I have wanted since middle school. There was no way to prepare for the encounter with God I had this morning as I finally saw the sunrise over Everest! God is so good! (and does some amazing work). This whole trip so far has been evidence of His love.

One of our guides, Bishnu, has an orphanage in Kathmandu. What he is doing to change the world for the better is a standard for which we should all reach. One thing I have learned so far is that some people's mountain is different, and perhaps, bigger. What we call problems really aren't that big compared to what others go through. But, we can make a difference. Just like Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma has and continues to make a change for our lives by supporting the groundbreaking research of the MMRF. Through MM4MM, we know that all of us have the ability to make a difference. All it takes is courage, determination and faith. But the results are worth the effort!
