Could a simple blood test let doctors find cancer sooner than current approaches? An exciting new test called a liquid biopsy looks for cancer by detecting DNA from a tumor in the blood called circulating tumor DNA or ctDNA. These tests are used currently to monitor response to cancer treatment and to choose the best treatment options for metastatic cancer. Now, several companies are offering this type of blood test to detect multiple cancers at their earliest stages but these tests may not detect cancer early enough to improve healthcare. Hopefully this bill will help address some of the issues surrounding genetic testing, genetic counseling, and insurance coverage for those who might be at risk for hereditary cancer. My wife died of a cancer that was totally preventable. Nobody should die of a preventable cancer.
