Pedaling Through the Pandemic

Breast Cancer Survivor Marcie Jannetti rides more than 500 consecutive days and over 13,500 miles.

New York, NY (September 15, 2021) - Marcie Jannetti of Wall, NJ has now ridden 530 consecutive days and nearly 14,000 miles while training for the 2021 YSC Tour de Pink Lisa J. Frank Memorial Ride. In 2016 Jannetti was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 40. She was young and healthy and part of the Jersey Shore Triathlon Club, competing at an amateur level for fun and fitness. When she heard the diagnosis, Jannetti thought she would have to give up cycling. A friend from her tri club told her about the YSC Tour de Pink (TDP), at that time a 3-day 200+ mile bike ride raising funds for women just like her.

Jannetti was inspired once again to ride and participate in the 2017 YSC Tour de Pink and has ridden ever since. Fast forward to 2020 and her Tour de Pink plans were changed by a global pandemic. She wanted to stay motivated even when her local boardwalk, parks and gym were closed, and as a medical professional, Jannetti was worried about accidents and overwhelming the hospitals. She then dusted off her bike trainer and started a program with a social cycling platform called Zwift that started a 14-day ride at home program. At the end of the two weeks, she decided to continue riding in- and outdoors every day during the pandemic.

“The magic of the Tour de Pink lives not just on the roads we ride, but also in the giant hearts of all those who support and participate in the event,” said Janetti.
