CURE® takes great pride in organizing the Lung Cancer Heroes® recognition ceremony, a special event dedicated to honoring and celebrating the heroes who have made a significant difference in the lives of lung cancer patients. These individuals, who may include caregivers, advocates, health care professionals, and others, are nominated by patients for their heroic contributions to the lung cancer community or for their impact on the lives of those living with the disease. In collaboration with our sponsors and advocacy groups, CURE® is bringing together the lung cancer community to fight against the stigma surrounding the disease, and to provide information, support, and empowerment to those who have been affected. With the rapid advancement of science and improvements in care and treatment, there is hope for survivorship. As a united community, we can raise awareness and, most importantly, honor and celebrate our Lung Cancer Heroes.

Chris Draft is the Founder, President, and CEO of the <a style="color: blue" href='http://www.chrisdraftfamilyfoundation.org/'>Chris Draft Family Foundation</a> (CDFF) whose mission has been to empower families to lead healthy lifestyles. He is also the Co-Founder of <a style="color: blue" href='https://www.teamdraft.org/'>Team Draft</a>, leading the creation of a national campaign that is changing the face of lung cancer. He is an internationally recognized speaker, 
 community leader, and family advocate who serves as an NFL Ambassador and a national spokesperson on many health-related issues, including the care and treatment of asthma, from which he suffers, and lung cancer, the disease that claimed the life of his wife, Keasha, in 2011. A selfless leader, Chris continues to fight for and develop deep, authentic relationships with lung cancer survivors, their caregivers, doctors and cancer centers all over the map.

Cris Draft

Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe winner, Laura Dern has touched audiences and critics alike with her moving and heartfelt performances. On the big screen, Dern most recently starred in Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” for Netflix, and Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” for Sony Pictures. For her performance in “Marriage Story,” Dern received numerous accolades including the Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG Award, Critics’ Choice Award and the BAFTA Award. Also in 2019, Dern once again portrayed Renata Klein in the second season of HBO’s “Big Little Lies.”
 
 In addition to her extensive film and television credits, Dern has been prolific in her producing career. In 2017, she established Jaywalker Pictures, a Los Angeles-based production company founded with partner Jayme Lemons with emphasis on great storytelling in film and television.
 In 2016, Dern was selected to serve on The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors. 
 Growing up, Dern was living with her grandparents when her grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer. She can still vividly remember some of the hardest days of his lung cancer battle. She was only 6 years old when he passed away but can recall the lack of understanding he had about his own disease. 
 In 2014, Dern worked on the film “Wild” based on Cheryl Strayed’s 2012 memoir “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. Dern portrayed Strayed’s mother, who died from cancer. Dern felt a deep connection to her character because of the parallel it had to her grandfather’s cancer journey. 
 Shortly after making the film, Dern was introduced to the American Lung Association (ALA). In 2015, she partnered with ALA’s Lung Force initiative, whose mission is to unite women and their loved ones across the country to stand together against lung cancer. This year, Dern has joined the Lung Force Walk to help raise awareness and fund for lung cancer research.
 
 Laura Dern is also an activist working with numerous organizations including Everytown for Gun Safety, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Oceana. She also works with legal teams representing migrant children at the border.
