First, it is important that patients take a deep breath and realize that breast cancer is not a surgical emergency. In fact, surgery is just one aspect of treatment that may not be required for every patient. DuPree recommends that patients get a second surgical opinion and weigh their options and preferences before deciding on a treatment plan.
