Katie Couric discussed the many challenges she faced while being a caregiver to her husband during his nine-month battle with colorectal cancer and shared how her career helped her to cope with the loss and turmoil in her life.

When Katie Couric’s husband received a diagnosis of colorectal cancer, life was turned upside down for her family.

The legendary broadcast journalist sat down with CURE® to discuss the many challenges she faced while being caregiver to her husband during his nine-month battle and shared how her career helped her to cope with the turmoil in her life.

“My entire focus was on him and I remember I was still on ‘The Today Show’,” said Couric. “Those two hours felt like such a helpful escape because those were two hours in the day where I wasn’t focused on him, how he was doing, if he was going to get better, were there more treatments that I didn’t know about, was there a clinical trial he could enroll in … it was just all-encompassing and overwhelming.”

“After Jay died … I became two parents instead of one,” recalled Couric. “That was a huge responsibility and the new normal was just trying to get back to normal for my girls.”
