Fig. 17 Braid
By
July 15th, 2019
Since my diagnosis with metastatic breast cancer in December 2018, I’ve been striving to become a statistical outlier, one of those people who enjoy decades of progression-free survival. I began to sample any and every stress-relieving activity I could, including Tai Chi, meditation, and an independent art therapy initiative. I’ve made few prior attempts at drawing and have no training, but I kept at it. This sketch of a simple braid is the 17th thing I drew and I think its not half bad. The process of drawing asks me to look closely and see deeply. When I do I am amazed at both the world around me and my ability to create some version of it.
