This piece of art represents one of the most vital components of my life: my family. Today, through this painting, I want to honor them and express how significantly their presence has shaped my life. Since day one, my family—my husband of 29 years and my 25-year-old daughter—has been by my side every step of the way, against all odds. I started my health journey with MPN-Myelofibrosis 11 years ago. Even though this bone marrow-blood disorder is incurable in my case, my family plays the most important role in my story. My husband and daughter became my compass rose during the darkest days of my life. When my life expectancy was 50/50, I chose to stay focused, holding their images in my mind as my ultimate goal. Their presence gave me strength, hope, and the power to become a better version of myself. Thanks to them, I learned a crucial lesson: not just how to navigate a health crisis, but how to conserve my energy rather than waste it fighting circumstances I cannot change. They have given me unconditional love, care, and the best support system imaginable. Without them, I don't know if I could have navigated these unexpected circumstances. Mayra with a purpose!
