Turning Love for Family Into Cancer Research

Author(s):

After her daughter was diagnosed, Celia Miltz founded the Friends of ET Research.

After her daughter was diagnosed with essential thrombocythemia in 1997, Celia Miltz grew frustrated at the lack of research and awareness around myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs).

So, in 1999, Miltz, who was recently honored by CURE as a 2018 MPN Hero, founded the Friends of ET Research. The organization held a golf tournament in 2000, and ended up raising $75,000 that year. All of the proceeds were given to a researcher who was investigating the genetic mutations that are associated with MPNs.
