AUGUSTA, GA (June 2, 2026) LiveLung, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting lung cancer patients, survivors, and their care partners, invites the CSRA’s lung cancer community to its educational meeting on Tuesday, June 9, at 11:30 a.m. The free event, which includes a complimentary lunch, will take place at The Kroc Center- 1833 Broad St., Augusta, GA 30904.
This month’s presentation, “Benefits of Music Therapy for Lung Cancer Patients,” will be led by Shannon Flaherty, BCMT. Flaherty will share how music therapy can support lung cancer patients by enhancing social, emotional, and cognitive well-being. “I am always amazed at music’s power to enhance social, emotional, and cognitive skills and well being,” said Flaherty.
Flaherty is a board-certified music therapist with more than seven years of experience working with individuals facing a variety of health challenges. Using a strengths-based approach, she empowers clients by highlighting personal successes, fostering resilience, and encouraging emotional and personal growth. She connects with clients through active music-making, songwriting, and verbal counseling, creating supportive spaces that promote healing, self-expression, and connection. Flaherty is continually inspired by music’s ability to enhance emotional well-being, strengthen social connections, and support cognitive and psychological health, helping individuals use music as a meaningful tool for coping, reflection, and overall wellness.
