Physician Turns Personal Diagnosis to Educational Opportunity

Brian Koffman is a family physician who used his own CLL diagnosis to start a group that informs other patients and their loved ones.

After being diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in 2005, physician Brian Koffman, M.D.C.M, created a blog to keep his friends and family updated on his disease.

Soon enough, the blog was reaching tens of thousands of readers each month. Koffman, who was also honored by CURE as a 2018 CLL Hero, then decided that a not-for-profit organization might work better to spread updates and information about the disease. So, he co-founded the CLL Society, where patients and caregivers can find basic information and updates on the disease.
