In 2016, Player-Jackson endured one of the most difficult chapters of her life when her father was diagnosed with head and neck cancer, while her brother was already receiving treatment for colon cancer, diagnosed in 2013. Both were hospitalized at the same time and multiple times throughout 2016, and tragically, both died just three weeks apart. Despite facing unimaginable grief, she continued to embody the very values that define nursing: compassion, perseverance and service. Even while experiencing profound personal loss, she never wavered in her commitment to her patients, colleagues and community. Her ability to care for others during her own darkest hours is a testament to her strength of character and her passion for oncology nursing.
