Gentle movement during cancer treatment can help maintain strength, mobility and balance. Follow Jennifer Tipton’s simple exercises to keep your body moving.

Staying active during cancer treatment can look different for everyone. On some days, you may have the energy for more movement, while on others, a few gentle stretches may be enough.

Cancer exercise specialist and breast cancer survivor Jennifer Tipton demonstrates a series of simple movements that can be adapted based on how you're feeling. The routine includes gentle stretches, squats, lunges, balance exercises and core work.

Many of the exercises can be modified to make them easier or more comfortable. You can also take breaks whenever you need to, and some stretches can be done from a chair or bed.

The goal isn't to push yourself. Instead, focus on moving in a way that feels comfortable for your body that day.
