Wellness At The Tip of Your Fingers

February 4, 2020

There can be advantages to participating in a wellness program with your insurance company.

Wellness in 2020, might be at the tip of your fingers. As we move into February, general statistics often suggest most individuals have gotten away from their New Year Resolutions and have reverted back into the typical habits of their daily life. Making wellness and improving well-being to me is a lifelong commitment, well after January ends.

As we age our needs in maintaining wellness change in addition to managing an active cancer diagnosis or in managing a current status of NED, otherwise known as no evidence of disease. My husband and I happen to both be NED, but that is not to be taken for granted. Something I am benefitting from to help maintain and monitor my wellness is an annual health screening and annual physical.

I not only follow up with needed specialists and my family medical provider, but I participate in an annual online health screening and wellness modules that I can monitor and complete with my insurance company. This is part of on an online health coaching program which is offered by a growing number of insurance companies.

There can be advantages to participating in a wellness program with your insurance company. My insurance company rewards me for completing health related goals with money that is placed on a wellness card. This wellness card can be used for co-payments to a doctor's office, prescription medications, vision checks, corrective lenses and select other approved items and services. The savings can add up.

This year I will have earned $170.00 on my wellness card after completing one final goal. The cost savings are great when you think about it as it essentially reduces the initial account of out of pocket payments your making before regular benefits kick in. Other advances include having information about your health linked into your wellness portal. Lab results from your annual physical can be available in your account to help determine the healthy goals you need to be aware of, in regard to your age and any risk levels, which might come up from completing your annual health assessment.

Different assessments and healthy goals may include improving mood, reducing stress, improving upon healthy eating, managing weight, obtaining help with smoking cessation, managing hypertension, or other numerous topics depending on your needs and the diversity of the programs.

There are also opportunities to work in some cases with a nurse who can be contacted for more personal feedback. The benefits of maintaining your overall health and wellness might be priceless if you can avoid additional medical visits and guide yourself with preventative care. Other benefits may include assistance in securing reduced gym or health club memberships which is also a benefit that I have available with my insurance carrier.

I encourage you to reach out to your insurance company to see what benefits you have available and get started in making wellness a lifestyle!
