Patients with cancer discuss how compassionate and professional oncology nurses make all the difference on their care teams as they go through the cancer journey.

Joelle Hicks, B.S.N., RN, works with a wonderful team including nurses, a pharmacist and administrative staff out of the office and infusion center of oncologist Dr. Kathryn M. Leininger. As a patient under the special care of Joelle and other team members for over a year, I have witnessed the care and compassion that she has shown to me and others receiving life-sustaining supportive treatment.

Biweekly, I witnessed why she has a reputation for providing courteous and professional interactions with all stakeholders in the infusion center, from Dr. Leininger to Dave the pharmacist. She has shown great flexibility as situations require, working well with young and older adults and providing the same outstanding service to a diverse client base.

One of Joelle’s greatest strengths is her superior dependability. During the time that I have been receiving treatment, she has demonstrated an exemplary level of attendance and provided a steady presence for team members and the individuals that she serves. My hat goes off to Cleveland Clinic – Akron General for having a team member like Joelle.
